Fishing quality in renowned Komodo Islands has deteriorated drastically over the recent years as a result of intense fishing pressure. Now in Year 2009, Kaiser Fishing Services is proud to offer an almost unfished and under-explored fishing destination! We call it SALPA Islands.
SALPA is a group of islands in East Nusa Tenggara, southern Indonesia. The name SALPA cannot be found in any maps or search engines because it is a name given by Captain Yuji Takabe of Kaiser Fishing Services Indonesia. In year 2008, Captain Yuji becomes the first sport fishing Captain to do fishing exploration in this part of Indonesia and eventually brought in the first sport fishing boat and charter. SALPA is derived namely from the first alphabet of 5 islands - Solor, Adonara, Lembata, Pantar and Alor. Alor (Kalabahi )( 8° 15′ 0″ S, 124° 45′ 0″ E) forms the base of our fishing charter. It is located at the eastern-most end of the Lesser Sunda Islands.
Fishing is done around the islands which provide great shelters from the north-westerlies. It is therefore possible to fish this area throughout the whole year. Giant Trevallies (Caranx Ignobilis/Ulua/Ronin Aji) is the primary species on offer here for popping enthusiasts, with the occasional hit of Redbass, Coral Groupers and Bluefin Trevallies. Huge Yellowfin Tunas as big as 60kg to 70kg have been sighted jumping and in boils and it will only take time before they will be added to our list. Jigging spots here in SALPA has yet to be explored although we have noted numerous spots with interesting seabed structures that is extremely promising. Dogtooth Tuna will not be uncommon we believe.
